The short version
We collect what we need to make and deliver your map — the details on your order ticket and your email address — and nothing for advertising. We don't sell data, we don't use tracking cookies, and you can ask us to delete your order at any time.
What we collect
- Your order ticket: the place name, location, your chosen spots and notes, map style, brand colours and any logo you upload.
- Your email address, so we can deliver your map and reach you about your order.
- Payment detailsare entered on Stripe's secure checkout. We never see or store your card number.
- Basic technical data: your IP address is used briefly to stop abuse (rate limiting), and our hosting provider keeps standard server logs.
While you fill in an order, your progress is saved in your own browser (local storage) so you can come back to it. It isn't sent to us until you continue to checkout.
Why we use it
- To create, check and deliver your map pack, and to handle revisions and refunds.
- To email you about your order. We won't send marketing email without asking.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
Who helps us
We use a small number of providers, each only for the job listed:
- Railway — hosts the website and stores order data.
- Cloudflare — domain, DNS and file storage.
- Stripe — takes payments.
- Resend — sends order emails.
- Google (Gemini) — generates the map artwork and, if you ask for them, spot suggestions. We send the place name, location, style and the kind of business — never your email or payment details.
- Photon (Komoot) and Overpass— power address search and nearby-place suggestions. Our server sends the text you search for or the map location; your IP address isn't passed on.
- OpenStreetMap— the interactive map on the order page loads its map tiles directly from OpenStreetMap's tile servers, which receive your IP address as part of that request.
These providers may process data on servers outside your country.
Cookies and analytics
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't run analytics that follow you around the web.
How long we keep it
We keep your order and its files so your private download link keeps working. Ask us and we'll delete them — we aim to do that within 30 days. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period under their own policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or California law), you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal data, or object to how we use it. Email hello@localmapshop.comand we'll help. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Local Map Shop isn't aimed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
